Grey of the day
Purecolour® is currently used by municipalities, housing companies and property owners across Sweden. Here, our customers share their experiences – how the solution works in everyday life and the difference it makes for sustainability and resource efficiency over time.

Lerum Municipality is a growing municipality in Västra Götaland that actively works towards sustainable community development. With a focus on long-term planning and Agenda 2030, they aim to create an attractive and sustainable place to live and work.
100% recycled plastic
“Lerum Municipality decided in 2023 to introduce a new collection system with kerbside collection of packaging waste using four-compartment bins, following the government’s decision to give municipalities responsibility for packaging waste collection. Experience from other municipalities clearly showed that the introduction of four-compartment bins increases sorting rates and that the system is highly appreciated by residents.
In January 2025, the first four-compartment bins were rolled out in Lerum. PWS managed the entire project, including assembly and distribution of the new bins, as well as collection and recycling of old, worn-out bins – all to a very high standard. Within six weeks, PWS distributed nearly 20,000 four-compartment bins across the municipality and collected almost as many for recycling. Today, 96% of single-family households use four-compartment bins, and the goal is to reach a 100% coverage.
Sustainability was an important aspect for the municipality in this large-scale project of replacing all bins. Lerum has a regional waste plan focused on reuse and waste minimisation, making it a natural choice to recycle old bins that could not be reused into new ones, and to manufacture new bins from 100% recycled plastic. The PURECOLOUR® shade from PWS, also known as “Grey of the day,” provided exactly what was needed. The variations in grey shades visible among the bins today are a symbol that they are made from 100% recycled plastic from old bins. As an added service, each household with four-compartment bins also received an electronics box with compartments for batteries and light sources – naturally also in PURECOLOUR®.
Today, the new system has been in operation for over a year, and we are already seeing a reduction in residual waste and an increase in sortable packaging materials. Many residents have reached out with positive feedback, and we can strongly recommend both the four-compartment bins and the PURECOLOUR® colour to others preparing to introduce property-close collection.”
